Before Lady Gaga There Was Grandmaster Melle Mel

Two movies helped shape me more than most growing up and made me want to move to New York City when I was a kid from Iowa: WhildStyle and Beat Street.

Both are packed with many of the same things I still love to this day: graffiti art, breakdancing, and rap.

Here's one of the classic raps from Beat Street. Besides seeing how NYC was a wasteland only 25 years ago, it is hilarious to see the outfits. Lady Gaga has nothing on these guys....

I'm not sure how I feel about you using my inspiration to malign Ms. GaGa, but yes this is third on my list of Beat Street songs, number 2 is the Santa Claus rap...

Big O! I kid the GaGa. I kid. She can hip it up with the best of 'em. I too am a fan of the Santa Claus Rap and pretty much the whole album.

Funny you posted "Before Lady Gaga There Was Grandmaster Melle Mel"as they are now in the news about a childrens book (The Portal In The Park) & 2 new songs they did together.
